Career development has been highlighted as an area of focus following on from the latest staff survey results therefore all staff are to have a meaningful appraisal by the end of September 2022. This is an opportunity to reflect on the last 12 months, discuss your health and wellbeing and your future career aspirations with your Manager.
It’s not always easy to take a step back and think about how your job is going, time should be put aside to monitor and improve job performance and set objectives. This can be done either through 1-1s, appraisals or career conversations.
At the very least you should have an appraisal once every 12 months, but preferably every couple of months you should sit down with your line manager and discuss your performance and make a plan for your future development. All staff should receive an appraisal including those on permanent, temporary and bank contracts as well as staff seconded into the organisation.
These kinds of conversations can contribute to your successes in a role and help to maximise your potential as ideas about career development, including training and support needs, can be put forward. These conversations can also be used to gain practical support in developing a career path and improving job satisfaction..
