Reporting an Absence

I’m too unwell to attend work, what do I do?

You need to call the trust absence reporting line as soon as possible.

The number you need to report your absence is: 0330 8087980; you will also need your assignment number, which can be found on your payslip.

During the current phase of the roll out, staff are being asked to also continue to personally notify your manager (or nominated departmental absence contact person) as early as possible by telephone.

What is the Absence Reporting Line and what does it do?

This Absence Reporting Line will allow you access to a system which will:

  • Provide a simple, secure and confidential way to report your absence
  • Enable you to notify us of your unplanned absence 24/7 via telephone
  • Speed up the swabbing processes for Covid -19 testing where required
  • Help the trust to look after your health and wellbeing

What happens after I call the Absence Reporting Line?

Reporting your unplanned absence is a really simple process. You make a phone call and the system will record your absence via a button or voice activated series of questions. It is highly secure and will identify you based on your assignment number.

Once you have left your details, a member of the trust’s Health and Wellbeing Hub team will call you back between the hours of 7am-5pm Monday to Friday and 8am-11am Saturday and Sunday.

They will collect further details from you and assess any requirement for occupational health assessments and any specific requirements such as swab testing during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Your line manager will be advised and will continue to support you during your absence.

After every absence your manager will meet with you to check you are fit to be back in work and ask you if there is anything work-related that they need to be aware of. If you have a long-term health condition that impacts upon your work (or your work impacts upon your condition) speak to your manager about drawing up an employee well-being plan (see related documents below) which is designed to help you work together to monitor the situation and agree any support you may need.
